Dr. Kayla Peak has been an advocate for those with disabilities since 1997 when she first taught an Adapted Physical Education course at Tarleton State University. Since that time she has developed a keen interest in programming special events for individuals with special needs.
Peak received a B.S. and M.Ed. in Physical Education from Tarleton State University and completed her doctoral degree in Physical Education and Recreation at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1995. Since completing her terminal degree, she served as Director of Campus Recreation, at Texas A&M University-Commerce, for 10 years. During that time, she also served as project administrator for a youth sports camp for disadvantaged students many of whom had behavioral issues. Then in 2006 she accepted a faculty position at Tarleton State University where she now teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses as well as serves as the Graduate Program Director.
Concerning Dr. Peak’s interest in programming special events for children with disabilities, she serves as the Director of Fantastic Field Day and Rock the Gym. Her college students are responsible for serving as event leaders and ‘buddies’ for both events. Dr. Peak and her students also volunteer each semester to work at the annual TREAT Rodeo which is an event for children with special needs. She also conducts various seminars and workshops for adults with disabilities.
Since moving back to her alma mater, Peak and her family have made their home in Stephenville, Texas. Kayla has been married to the love of her life, Paul Peak, since 1993; Paul-David Wood Peak, their handsome son, was born in 2005.
